COOKIE POLICY

Fondazione Ca’ Foscari, with registered office in Dorsoduro 3859/A, postcode 30123 Venice, Italy (hereinafter referred to as the “Fondazione”) hereby provides information regarding navigation data and the functioning of cookies and other tracking tools on the website www.cafoscarichallengeschool.it (“Website”), also on the basis of the indications provided by the Italian Data Protection Authority. For the purposes of this statement, the term “cookies” also refers to the other tracking tools used by the Site, as described in more detail below. The following information applies to the Site and not to other websites of third parties that may be consulted by users via links. This Cookie Policy must be read in addition to the Privacy Policy available at the following link , to which reference should be made for any other information on the processing of personal data.

1. Browsing data, cookies and other tracking tools

1.1 Browsing data

In the course of their normal operation, the computer systems and software procedures used to operate the Site acquire certain personal data the transmission of which is an integral part of the use of Internet communication protocols.

This information is not collected to be associated with identified persons, but by its very nature could, through processing and association with data held by third parties, allow users to be identified.

This category of data includes IP addresses or domain names of the computers used by users connecting to the Website, the URI (Uniform Resourse Identifier) addresses of the resources requested, the time of the request, the method used to submit the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in response, the numerical code indicating the status of the response given by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters relating to users’ operating systems and digital environments.

These data are used for the sole purpose of obtaining anonymous statistical information on the use of the Site and to check its correct functioning, and are deleted immediately after processing.

The data could be used to ascertain responsibility in the event of hypothetical cybercrimes to the detriment of the Site: in this case, the data is stored for the time defined by the relevant legal regulations or, in general, for the time strictly necessary to provide users with the service requested and to guarantee the transmission of the communication.

During browsing on the Site, CFCS can collect and process certain information, also automatically, such as through the installation of cookies in the client or the user’s device, to provide and complete the various services and functions offered by the Site.

1.2 Cookies and other tracking tools

Cookies are usually strings of text that websites (“publisher” or “first parties”) visited by users or other websites or web servers (“third-party”) place and store – directly, in the case of publishers, and indirectly, i.e. through them, in the case of “third parties” – in a device available to users. The terminals referred to are, for example, a personal computer, a tablet, a smartphone, or any other device capable of storing information. I terminali cui ci si riferisce sono, ad esempio, un personal computer, un tablet, uno smartphone, ovvero ogni altro dispositivo in grado di archiviare informazioni.

Internet browsing software and the operation of these devices, e.g. browsers, can store cookies and then transmit them back to the sites that generated them when the same user visits again, thus keeping a record of their previous interaction with one or more websites.

The information encoded in cookies may include personal data, such as an IP address, user name, unique identifier or email address, but may also contain non-personal data, such as language settings or information about the type of device a person is using to browse the site.

Cookies can therefore perform a number of important functions, including session monitoring, storing information on specific configurations of users accessing the server, facilitating the use of online content, etc. They can, for example, be used to keep track of items in an online shopping cart or information used to fill out an online form. If, on the one hand, it is by means of cookies that it is possible, among other things, to allow web pages to load more quickly and to route information on a network – in keeping, therefore, with requirements strictly linked to the very operation of websites -, it is also possible, again by means of cookies, to convey “behavioural advertising” and then measure the effectiveness of the advertising message, i.e. conforming the type and methods of the services rendered to the behaviour of the user under previous observation.

This can also be achieved by using other tools (all of which can be distinguished between so-called ‘active identifiers’, such as cookies, and ‘passive identifiers’, the requiring mere observation), which enable processing operations similar to those mentioned above.

1.3 Types of cookies

Cookies and other tracking tools may have different temporal characteristics and therefore be considered according to their duration (session or permanent), or subjectively (depending on whether the publisher acts on its own or on behalf of the “third party”). However, the classification that mainly meets user protection needs is based on two main categories:

Cookies may also be used, among other things, to assess the effectiveness of an information technology company provided by a publisher, to design a website or to help measure ‘traffic’, i.e., the number of visitors, including by geographic area, connection time or other characteristics. These identifiers, defined as analytics cookies, may be included in the category of technical cookies, and as such may be used without the prior consent of the person concerned, provided the following conditions are met:

If these conditions are not met, analytics cookies also require the user’s consent in order to be downloaded.

Finally, cookies may also be used to enable engagement and easy sharing of content on social networks and/or to enable the sending of targeted advertisements based on the user’s preferences (social cookies); these cookies also require the user’s consent.
